Roosevelt Science and Technology admissions timeline for fall 2027

Who applies, who is considered automatically, and the yearly pattern for Roosevelt Science and Technology admissions, with what PGCPS has and has not published.

Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt hosts one of three Science and Technology sites run by Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS). The other two are at Charles Herbert Flowers and Oxon Hill High Schools. This guide walks through the admissions year as PGCPS and the school describe it, in the order families meet each step. Where PGCPS has not published an exact date for fall 2027 entry, the guide says so and tells you where to look.

The short answer

If your student is in a PGCPS 8th grade, you do not submit an application. PGCPS says it considers every current PGCPS 8th grader automatically, as long as the student has taken the PSAT 8/9. If your student is in a PGCPS 9th grade, or attends a school outside PGCPS, your family applies.

Selection rests on two things: the PSAT 8/9 score and the grade point average (GPA). The school's admissions page says so directly, and nothing published adds a separate entrance exam.

Step 1: Check your address

Before anything else, check where you live. A student can only attend the Science and Technology site that serves the family's legal address, and placement among the three sites follows the student's boundary zip code. The school says only students within the northern boundary of PGCPS are admitted to Eleanor Roosevelt. PGCPS points families to its School Finder to check an address.

This matters for planning. A family cannot pick Roosevelt because it is closer to a parent's job, and a sibling who is not admitted attends the family's boundary school.

Step 2: Find out whether you apply

| Student today | What happens | | --- | --- | | Current PGCPS 8th grader | Considered automatically if the PSAT 8/9 is taken. No application. | | Current PGCPS 9th grader | Applies. Grade 10 openings are limited. | | 8th or 9th grader outside PGCPS | Applies, and takes the PSAT 8/9 at a Science and Technology site. | | Private school or homeschool | Completes the Google Form on the ERHS admissions page. The PGCPS chart also lists an essay. |

Applicants need a PGCPS student information number to apply. If your student is not in PGCPS, ask PGCPS how to get one before the window opens.

Step 3: The application window

The window for students outside PGCPS and current PGCPS 9th graders opens in August and closes in early October. The ERHS FAQ says it that way, and PGCPS adds that the window usually falls between August and October but that the actual dates change each year.

PGCPS pages I reviewed showed this window as closed at the time of checking. The last window with published dates ran August 1 to October 3, 2025. Fall 2027 dates were not confirmed, so treat any exact date you see on a third-party site with caution and confirm it on the PGCPS applications page.

Step 4: The PSAT 8/9

Every applicant takes the PSAT 8/9. PGCPS 8th graders sit for it at their own schools. Students outside PGCPS sit for it at one of the three Science and Technology sites. The school's admissions page lists December, while some PGCPS pages say October for PGCPS 9th graders and students outside PGCPS. Those do not match, so ask your school counselor or the PGCPS Testing Office which date applies to your student.

Step 5: Decisions and what follows

The PGCPS Testing Office sends decisions in early March. PGCPS describes a wider range of March to May for specialty programs in general. Eligible and waitlisted families are invited to a spring open house, and accepted and waitlisted students complete an intent form.

A student who is not accepted as a freshman can retake the PSAT 8/9 and reapply. For reapplicants entering Grade 9, the unweighted core GPA and the PSAT 8/9 score are used to calculate the total score.

Step 6: Summer Bridge

Incoming 9th graders attend Summer Bridge, a three-week program, and the school expects all of them to attend. Put it on the family calendar early, since it starts the program before the first day of Grade 9.

A simple working calendar

  • Now: check your address in the School Finder and confirm whether your student applies or is considered automatically.
  • Fall: confirm the PSAT 8/9 date and place with the school counselor or PGCPS.
  • Fall: if your student must apply, watch the PGCPS applications page for the window and finish early.
  • Winter: keep quarter grades steady in English, math, science and social studies, since those make up the GPA.
  • Early March: watch for the decision from the PGCPS Testing Office.
  • Spring: attend the open house if invited and return the intent form if your student is accepted or waitlisted.

What PGCPS has not published

PGCPS and the school do not publish a PSAT 8/9 cutoff, the weight of the score against the GPA, the number of seats at Roosevelt, or an admit rate. This site does not guess at them. If you see a specific target number elsewhere, ask where it came from.
