Application Preparation
Prepare for the two pieces PGCPS counts
There is no separate entrance exam. The PSAT 8/9 and core-class quarter grades decide eligibility, and a family can influence both before the deadline.

Testing
What PGCPS counts.
There is no separate Science and Technology entrance exam. PGCPS uses a test score and grades.
- Selection factors
- A student's eligibility is based on two things: the PSAT 8/9 score and the grade point average (GPA).
- The GPA
- The GPA comes from quarter grades in English, math, science and social studies. It uses all four quarters of the previous school year and the first quarter of the current school year.
- The PSAT 8/9
- Every applicant must take the PSAT 8/9. There is no separate Science and Technology entrance exam in the published materials.
- Test date and place
- PGCPS 8th graders take the PSAT 8/9 at their own schools. Students outside PGCPS test at one of the three Science and Technology sites. The ERHS admissions page lists December for both groups, while some PGCPS pages say October for PGCPS 9th graders and non-PGCPS students. Confirm your test date with PGCPS before you plan around one.
- Retaking the test
- A student who is not accepted as a freshman can retake the PSAT 8/9 and reapply. For reapplicants entering Grade 9, the unweighted core GPA and the PSAT 8/9 score are used to calculate the total score.
- 01
Ask the school counselor to confirm the PSAT 8/9 date and whether your student is already registered.
- 02
PGCPS does not publish cutoff scores or weighting, so avoid any guide that claims a target number.
Preparation plan
A plan that works from the published rules.
Adjust the pace to your student's schedule. The order matters more than the exact days.
First
Check your address
Use the PGCPS School Finder to see whether your home address falls in the northern boundary that Roosevelt serves.
Early
Find out whether you apply
Current PGCPS 8th graders are considered automatically. Grade 9 and non-PGCPS students apply.
Next
Confirm the PSAT 8/9
Ask the school counselor or PGCPS for your student's test date and location.
Next
Protect the core grades
English, math, science and social studies quarter grades make up the GPA that PGCPS counts.
Before the window closes
Submit on time
If your student must apply, finish the application early and keep the confirmation.
After decisions
Return the intent form
Accepted and waitlisted students complete an intent form, and eligible families are invited to a spring open house.
